Fall turns into winter quickly when November begins, even if the official beginning of the season doesn't happen until much later. Holidays bump into each other, and even during this unusual year, feelings of remembrance and celebration keep us busy. A push for Movember amps up fundraising for men's health issues, and right in the middle of the month, we find a day just for the men in our lives.
Why celebrate International Men's Day?
For some members of the Jada Jo community, it might seem unnecessary to carve out a day to celebrate men — no matter how much we love the ones in our own lives. For much of history, men have been lauded, their accomplishments celebrated, often above those of women. When I learned about International Men's Day, I dove a little deeper into the organization, and I truly appreciated the mission of the group.
Appreciating a wide spectrum of qualities in men
They focus on four pillars of social change, something to which I relate. I especially appreciate the aspects of promoting men's health in all areas, including emotional and spiritual health. Often, men are portrayed in a certain hyper-masculine way in the media, and that feels detrimental to me. Earlier this year, Harry Styles made news with his bold jewelry choices. Recently, he's pushed the envelope of expectation by donning dresses — and talking about boundaries — in Vogue.
Continuing the conversation about men's issues
This year, International Men's Day adopted three new themes:
Of all of those things, I feel happiest to see the theme of promoting a positive conversation. Keeping open lines of communication surrounding masculinity and what that might look and act like will truly make a difference in the lives of men — and women. When we more fully accept and celebrate a fuller spectrum of masculinity, everyone benefits.
Embracing men's jewelry
If you've been part of this community for a while, you know I feel passionately about our Men's Collection. Originally inspired by the iconic alternative rock of the 90s, the collection continues to evolve.
If you're looking for a statement piece for a special man in your life, I urge you to consider the Austin Pietersite Necklace. Crafted in honor of the Austin City Limits Festival, the necklace features neon apatite, a stone associated with humanitarian activities (perfect for International Men's Day), and a stunning pietersite pendant, a protective stone known for calming nerves.
Of course, when I'm suggesting a first piece or a piece for a man unaccustomed to wearing jewelry, a bracelet in a neutral-colored stone can feel a little less risky. The Spoonman Bracelet contains labordorite, one of our favorite stones. It brings amazing change in the life of its wearer. The bracelet uses discs instead of round beads, highlighting the deep gray iridescence of the stones.
If you're searching for balance between safe and a big statement, consider the Tattoo Bracelets. Each purchase includes two bracelets, consisting mainly of turquoise Tiger's Eye, a stone that protects against negativity and brings clarity to your intentions. With red coral bringing a pop of color to the bracelets, they are a beautiful gift!
How will you celebrate the men in your life this season?
