You might find yourself attracted to chakra jewelry because of the colors used or the way the gemstones catch the light. However, gemstone and crystal bracelets and necklaces contain more than simple aesthetic qualities. Jada Jo Jewelry looks to gemstones as one of the four pillars of the Jada Jo philosophy, which gives me the opportunity to incorporate them into each of my lines in various ways. Gemstone jewelry offers benefits to its wearer, from increasing energy to a chakra or to bringing inner peace.
What are chakras?
Before understanding why chakra jewelry should be part of your daily jewelry choices, it helps to understand what chakras are—and what they do for your health and well-being. Many global cultures and yogic traditions teach that the body contains seven chakras, energy centers in your body that focus on certain emotions and keep energy flowing properly through your body. Keeping your chakras balanced, or aligned, helps balance your emotional and physical health. Learning about and paying attention to the imbalances in your chakras can help you feel centered, energized, and at peace.
An overview of the seven chakras
The chakras start at the base of the spine and continue with an upward flow toward the crown of your head. Each chakra corresponds to a specific color, which in turn corresponds to certain gemstones—the basis of chakra jewelry.
Root chakra — You find the first chakra at the base of the spine. This chakra corresponds to our very foundation of being, and can be thrown off kilter by survival matters, particularly related to food and financial security. The red chakra can be balanced with garnet, obsidian, and smokey quartz.
Sacral chakra — Located just below the navel, the sacral chakra color is orange. This chakra focuses on our sense of connection to other people, including sexuality. Chakra jewelry used to balance the sacral chakra uses stones like carnelian and amber.
Solar plexus chakra — This chakra is found in the overall stomach area and corresponds to the color yellow. When balanced, this chakra contributes to overall confidence and a sense of control. Use jewelry feature tiger eye and citrine to balance this chakra.
Heart chakra —The heart chakra rests in the center of the chest and is your green chakra. Of course, the heart chakra relates to our ability to give love—and to accept it from others. Gemstones like jade, rose quartz, and malachite open and enhance your heart chakra.
Throat chakra — Located at the base of the throat, the blue chakra relates to the strength of our communication. For better communication, wear jewelry made with lapis, turquoise, and aquamarine.
Third eye chakra — Find this powerful chakra on your forehead, just between the eyes. The third eye helps you focus. To increase focus, wear indigo stones, such as amethyst and obsidian.
Crown chakra — The final chakra can be found at the top of your head. The violet chakra represents our highest spiritual connection. Stones that open this chakra to its fullest potential include clear quartz, selenite, and diamond.
How to wear chakra jewelry
Wearing chakra jewelry with thought and intention helps bring balance to your overall well being. Reflect on your state of mind and the joys and challenges you're currently facing when choosing your jewelry. Remember that the left side of your body, your emotional half, corresponds to your internal self. Choose gems that focus on what you want to change or heal internally. Your right side, the active half of your body, relates to the energy you release to the world around you.
I'm deliberately choosing my labradorite pieces right now, which I mentioned at the end of last year. The powerful talisman offers protection and a connection to my intuition. Though the stone appears gray or gray-green at first glance, in light it refracts in lovely peacock blues or even copper. I believe so strongly in the power of chakra stones that I store my gemstones in colored bins corresponding to the chakras, with each drawer houses gems aiding that chakra.
Don't fear making the wrong choices with your jewelry. It may take a bit of trial and error before you find a balance that works for you and increases your connection between your inner self and the world in which you live.
